    Every parent thinks they know what’s best for their child and that proved to be a key component of Dominik Szoboszlai’s development into the talented 19-year-old Hungarian midfielder who is expected to go on big things.

    Zsolt Szoboszlai, himself a footballer once, was his son’s coach at Videoton until he was dismissed for refusing to bump a child up to a more advanced group, as their parent requested.

    But by then, Zsolt had already acquired a strong grounding in youth coaching and development, honing specific philosophies along the way that emphasized ball work.

    He and the fathers of two other young players formed their own club in the same town, Fehervar, calling their team Foenix-Gold FC, and 13 years on they are thriving.

    Szoboszlai made his professional debut in the 2017–18 campaign, with the Liefering in the second division against Kapfenberg on 21 July 2017.[3] He scored his first professional goal against FC Blau-Weiß Linz on 4 August 2017

    The teenage star is being linked with some of Europe’s biggest clubs after a breakthrough season in Austrian football. Dominik Szoboszlai is a player who is certainly going places.

    The RB Salzburg midfielder is regarded as one of the best teenagers in world football, resulting in him finishing as the highest-ranked player outside of Europe’s five major leagues in Goal’s 2019 NxGn list.

    The Hungarian’s progress has led to interest from a host of the continent’s top clubs, including Arsenal, Juventus and Bayern Munich.

    It’s been another brilliant campaign for Szoboszlai as he has chipped in with ten goals and 16 assists in 37 games in all competitions.

    According to French journalist Manu Lonjon, Arsenal face competition from AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain in the race to sign the player.

    And he states that Salzburg would be willing to sell their prized asset for a fee in the region of £22million-£27million.

    Should he make the move to Arsenal, he would likely replace Mesut Ozil in the squad, with the German World Cup winner frozen out of the side by Mikel Arteta.

    Dominik Szoboszlai’  Club Career

    Born in Székesfehérvár, Hungary, Szoboszlai’s first steps in football came with the youth team of local top-flight outfit Videoton (now known as Fehérvár FC).

    Stints with Főnix-GOLD, Újpest and MTK Budapest’s academies followed, with the midfielder’s performances for the latter catching the eye of Red Bull scouts.

    He was subsequently transferred to Salzburg’s feeder team Liefering and made his professional debut in the Austrian second tier in July 2017.

    Just under a year later, Szoboszlai was handed his top-flight bow for Salzburg, and he has since established himself as a regular starter under Jesse Marsch.

    A regular in this season’s Champions League, the 19-year-old featured in both group games against holders Liverpool this season.

    His performances on that stage and domestically have also garnered international recognition in the form of eight Hungary caps.

    DominikDuring the 2017–18 season he made his debut against Austria Wien on 27 May 2018. He entered the pitch in the 57th minute as a substitute for Enock Mwepu. He scored his first goal for the club in the 6-0 Austrian Cup win against SC Eglo Schwarz. On 17 September 2019 he made his Champions League debut and scored his first goal in this competition against Genk in a 6–2 victory.

    He scored a hat-trick as Salzburg won 5-1 against Sturm Graz on 10 June 2020.

    Dominik Szoboszlai’ Style of play

    A tall, rangy midfielder with tidy footwork. Szoboszlai generally looks to break lines by dribbling, though he is a capable passer of the ball.

    He is also a regular set-piece taker for Salzburg.

    The teenager confidently replied: “If I had to name a player who has a similar way to play football like me, I would name [Paul] Pogba or Kroos.”

    If he gets anywhere near either of those players, he will have had some career.

    What next?

    Borussia Dortmund and Arsenal have long been credited with an interest in Szoboszlai.  Tuttosport claimed earlier this week that Liverpool had entered the battle for his signature.

    He made his debut for the U-21 team against Germany U21 on 1 September 2017.

    He received his first call up to the senior Hungary squad for the friendly match against Russia. And also the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification against Andorra in June 2017.
